En Garde
School of the Sword

The tip of a fencing weapon is the second fastest moving object in the Olympics. The fastest is a bullet.

En Garde School of the Sword is a fencing school in Cape Town, founded in 1999 by David Wagenfeld. Within our structured approach, students learn the basic offensive and defensive techniques of this noble art. Insight, speed, reactions and daring are especially addressed in each course, focusing attention on building the students’ ability to concentrate and control their energy and aggression.

Fencing is not a violent sport
Although the object of the game is to hit without being hit, fencing is not a violent sport. Its philosophy is one of “harmonious conflict.” Mutual respect is at the core of the fencing ethos. The age of chivalry lives on!
